PROGRAMMING NOTES: 3 things...

#1 - This will be the last Rewind of 2020. I'm in the process of moving over the next couple of weeks so the Rewind will return on Jan. 6th. And then it'll be done on the 13th, because there's only 2 Rewinds left...

#2 - Thanks to everybody who nominated me and/or the Rewind for the Wreddit Awards. I <3 y'all.

#3 - Wanted to offer my condolences to Dave and his family on the loss of his mother. I lost my own mom when I was young so I always have something of an extra dash of sympathy for people who lose their mothers, no matter how late in life. Rest in peace Mama Meltzer.

Okay, on with the show!

  • This week, we get the full super-length obituary for Mr. Wrestling, who passed away last week. Apparently last week's obit wasn't enough, so this week Dave drops another 7,000+ word history of his life and career, along with a complete list of all his titles and accomplishments. Those of you familiar with the Observer will know that the obituary pieces are always a highlight. Dave is a historian at heart and at his best when he's diving deep into into history of wrestling. He's got multiple books compiling these obituaries and they're excellent. But we also covered most of this last week and I'm struggling to get these Rewinds finished as it is. That being said, this is a magnificent read and I highly recommend it if you're interested and have an Observer subscription.
  • It has been widely reported in Japanese media that K-1 promoter Kazuyoshi Ishii is expected to be arrested soon on tax evasion charges, allegedly owing the government $1.7 million in back taxes. The rumors have been circulating for awhile, but K-1 had their big Grand Prix Finals show at the Tokyo Dome, which drew a massive sellout crowd and word is the government was holding off on the arrest, and the media was holding off on the story, because they didn't want to hurt the show, because it was expected to bring in a lot of tax revenue for the city of Tokyo. So it was kept quiet until after the show, but the day after it took place, the story blew up everywhere. This isn't unusual, as Japanese media is notorious for trying to protect big events such as this, whereas in the U.S., it would be a different matter and everyone would be racing to see who could break the story first. Just another difference in cultures. The claim is that Ishii brought in around $6 million in income that he never reported between 1997 and 2000 and, therefore, never paid taxes on. For his part, Ishii naturally denies the allegations and claims much of that was spent on bringing in foreign talent for shows and that the government is failing to take that into account. Ishii is basically the Vince McMahon of Japan. He not only runs K-1, but he has several huge stars (most notably right now being Bob Sapp) under exclusive contract and as a promoter, loans Sapp out to PRIDE, NJPW, AJPW, and others, turning him into Japan's biggest sports star. Basically, all these other companies can run their mid-range shows, but any show in Japan that has filled up a stadium in the last couple of years, Ishii was usually the one behind it. Ishii has also been responsible for bringing in Bill Goldberg and others for big shows (since we won't get to find out how this story plays out before the end of 2002: Ishii does indeed get charged with tax evasion. In 2004, he was convicted and sentenced to 22 months in prison. But he stayed out on bail and spent 3 years appealing his sentence to no avail. In 2007, he finally went to prison and served a little over 1 year before being released in 2008).
  • Speaking of the K-1 Grand Prix, Bob Sapp once again faced arguably the greatest kickboxer who ever lived, Ernesto Hoost, and for the second time, Sapp defeated him by referee stoppage in a wild, incredible brawl. Sapp absorbed an insane amount of punishment, from brutal leg kicks and multiple head punches but he kept going. Sapp, not exactly the best striker in the world, was swinging wild haymakers that mostly missed, but when they connected, boy did they. When the ref stopped it, Hoost was furious, and some felt the referee stopped it too soon to protect Sapp, who is the big star. And they may be right because Sapp was completely gassed and looked like a desperate man out there. He showed little defensive skill and doesn't have much in the way of technique. But the facts can't be denied: no matter how sloppy and unpolished he is, Sapp has now beaten the greatest heavyweight kickboxer of all time...twice. But Sapp was injured in the fight (broken hand) and had to pull out of the rest of the tournament, so even though he lost, Hoost was allowed to replace Sapp in the next round and move on. And Hoost went on to win the whole tournament, defeating Jerome LeBanner in the finals and claiming the $400,000 bonus. That sure seems kinda unfair. Anyway, the Grand Prix show ended up being the most successful wrestling/MMA show in Japan since the 1976 Inoki vs. Muhammad Ali fight. It was viewed by approximately 47 million people on TV. Everyone went in expecting Hoost to avenge his prior loss to Sapp, and that's what drew the crowd, but nope. And the result is that Sapp came out an even bigger star than he already was and Hoost still won the biggest tournament in K-1 history which seems to set up an obvious 3rd fight. The injury to Sapp wreaks havoc on Antonio Inoki's plans however. Sapp was scheduled to face NJPW wrestler Tadao Yasuda in an MMA fight at Inoki's New Year's Eve show in a couple of weeks, and because he's Bob Sapp, that was naturally the big draw for the show. But that's likely off the table now (nope, Sapp still fought him and still won). Sapp was also booked to work NJPW's Jan. 4th Tokyo Dome show next month, no word on how this may affect his ability to do a pro wrestling match (he doesn't end up doing that show, go figure). Anyway, here's the Sapp/Hoost fight and yeah, it's freakin' wild. The rise of Bob Sapp is probably the most interesting story of 2002 to me.

  • One of Japanese wrestling's longest traditions, the end-of-year tag team tournaments in both AJPW and NJPW, were complete bombs this year. AJPW's Real World Tag League tournament dates back to 1977 and has always been their premiere tournament. This year, it was won by Satoshi Kojima and Taiyo Kea, even though Kea went into the final match with a torn ACL and he didn't do much. He will be having surgery this week that's expected to keep him out 6 months or more, meaning they'll have to vacate the tag titles they just won. The final show, usually a guaranteed sell-out, drew a paltry 6,500 fans to Budokan Hall, the smallest crowd AJPW has drawn to that arena in the 30 year history of the company. Muto's recent changes to AJPW seem to be trying to modernize the company in American-style, with big video screens and pyro and all that gaga, and AJPW fans don't seem to be into it one bit. During the whole tour, which drew poorly for every show, people were making comparisons to the dying days of WCW. As for NJPW, they changed the tag tournament this year to a weird trios triathlon format that confused fans and didn't sell out a single show for the entire tour and the finals only drew 3,800. Needless to say, dark days for both AJPW and NJPW right now in 2002.
  • At a recent CMLL show at Arena Mexico, there was an incident with Negro Casas punching announcer Leobardo Magadan and breaking his nose. While this might sound like an angle, word is it was legit and that there are expected to be lawsuits filed and legal consequences. Casas was legitimately suspended by the commission and the TV network that Magadan works for has threatened to sue CMLL over the incident. Magadan and Casas have spoken on the phone since and Casas reportedly apologized. There has been bad blood between them for awhile and apparently Magadan said the wrong thing while Casas was in the wrong mood and got a punch to the face (I researched this and it apparently was real. Magadan not only had a broken nose but a detached retina. No idea how the legal stuff worked out or how much trouble Casas got into though).
  • NJPW is holding a press conference next month for some shows and, for some reason, Steven Seagal is expected to appear. Yes, that Steven Seagal. Which gives me an excuse to post this:
WATCH: Tom Segura - Steven Seagal
  • All Japan Women, the 3rd oldest promotion in the world (behind CMLL and WWE) is doing a 35th anniversary show (they didn't make it much longer. AJW ends up shutting down in 2005 after 37 years. At the time, it was the oldest wrestling promotion in Japan. Of course, since then, both NJPW and AJPW have surpassed it).
  • XPW signed an exclusive 3-year lease on the old ECW Arena in Philadelphia that will last through the end of 2006, with an option to extend it another 2 years to 2008 at the end of that term. This effectively prevents CZW, 3PW, or any other promotions from running shows there. However, if XPW goes out of business, loses their athletic commission license, or stops regularly running shows there, the lease could be terminated early by the venue. Word is XPW is paying $8,000-per-month for the rights. They plan to renovate the arena and add an entrance ramp and make some other changes (yeah this doesn't last long. By February, XPW starts missing payments and the lease is revoked).
  • WWA's latest PPV in Glasgow, Scotland saw Lex Luger defeat Sting to win the WWA title in a short, terrible match that was basically botched from start to finish. Jeff Jarrett interfered, hitting Sting with a guitar but the guitar barely broke. Earlier in the match, the referee botched a pinfall also. The ref knew Luger was winning and he didn't see Sting kick out of a pin, so he thought that was the finish and counted 3 and called for the bell. It led to some confusion and they ended up restarting the match. A second guitar shot to Sting a few minutes later finally broke the guitar. Elsewhere on the show, Jeff Jarrett beat Nathan Jones, also with a guitar shot, to retain the NWA title. A Sabu/Perry Saturn/Simon Diamond match saw two cheap ass tables break before they were supposed to, visibly pissing off Sabu. This show was taped and won't air live, so they may be able to edit a lot of the fuck-ups from the show, but word is Luger looked awful and is pretty much hopeless no matter how much editing they do. And Nathan Jones is incredibly green and just as hopeless. Buff Bagwell was also on the tour and, in case you're wondering what he's up to, apparently he caused such a disturbance on the flight overseas that police were called and detained him after he landed in England but was eventually released.

  • Ring of Honor ran another show in Philadelphia that drew kinda poorly compared to previous ROH shows in the area. It was also kind of a lackluster show. Colt Cabana defeated CM Punk in a match that was the ROH debut for both men. Matches with AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson, Paul London, and others were all decent, but nothing special. Main event featured the ROH debut of Abdullah The Butcher teaming with Homicide in a bloodbath against Carnage Crew.
  • Dave also notes that ROH parent company RF Video recently settled a lawsuit with PRIDE. Apparently RF Video had been selling bootleg tapes of PRIDE and AJPW shows. If you recall, earlier this year, tax-dodger Kazoyoshi Ishii secured the exclusive rights to sell and market PRIDE and AJPW videos in the United States and they apparently went after RF Video for doing it illegally. Settlement is confidential, but RF Video reportedly had to pay a good bit of money. A magazine in Japan reported that the settlement was for $2 million per year for the next 5 years, but needless to say, that's ridiculous to the point that it can't even possibly be believed.
  • The latest TNA PPV saw an allegedly "unscripted" incident between Vince Russo and Roddy Piper. Sigh. Piper showed up at the show and cut a promo and accused Russo of being responsible for killing Owen Hart, among other things. Piper's appearance was a surprise so he could get a big surprise pop. So TNA could have advertised him and probably gotten some much-needed money and PPV buys, but nope. Russo later cut another promo, trashing Piper for using Owen's death to push his book. Where the shoot/work aspect of this begins and ends is unknown. Despite claims to the contrary, a couple of people definitely knew Piper was there and that he was going to cut a promo on Russo, although most of the locker room and even the announcers didn't. As for the back and forth about Owen, no one seems to know if that was truly Piper's own feelings or if it was scripted, but considering it's Russo, people are obviously suspicious. Word is this was just a one-time appearance for Piper to promote his book, which makes it even more stupid if he's not coming back and this isn't going anywhere. A lot of viewers have been going online and making it known how tasteless they felt it was for TNA to use Owen Hart's death as part of a storyline. But it wouldn't be the first time. Back when WCW was still alive and they were doing a show at Kemper Arena, Russo pitched an idea to show Bret Hart walking around in the rafters. Needless to say, that did not happen and Hart didn't even appear on the show, but Russo wanted to do it (okay, the WCW idea is appalling, but in Russo's defense—and man, I hate defending Vince Russo—I believe it's come out over the years that the TNA/Piper segment really was Piper going into business for himself and wasn't just another dumb Russo angle. It was just Piper shooting on someone he didn't like and trying to sell books).

  • TNA is talking of taking their show on the road next year and running a few of their weekly PPVs from places outside of their Nashville arena. Dave thinks this is a pretty bad idea. It's expensive and they're already struggling just to sell a few hundred tickets in their home base and most of the shows are heavily papered (for once, TNA was smart here. They stuck with Nashville until 2004, at which point they moved to Orlando for Impact. They didn't actually start going "on the road" until 2006.
  • Paul Bearer, using his old pre-WWE name Percy Pringle, also debuted on the TNA show. The plan is for him to be a manager, likely for Malice (Abyss The Wall). But Dave thinks that will just make Malice look like a low-rent Undertaker (I don't think he ever really managed anybody or did much of anything aside from a few appearances).
WATCH: Percy Pringle debuts in TNA - 2002
  • BG James (Road Dogg) apologized to the TNA staff at a production meeting this week over his use of the word "f*ggot" on TV last week. But he never apologized publicly and TNA never made any kind of statement on it. It was just James apologizing to management backstage and nothing more.
  • WWE is pushing hard to bring in Goldberg for Wrestlemania, and they've made a strong enough pitch that Goldberg is said to be seriously considering it. Dave thinks it's kinda dumb that WWE waited until 2 years after WCW folded, after all the "Goldberg" chants have stopped, and most American fans have kinda forgotten about him. And suddenly, now they get serious about bringing him in, because they clearly need him more than he needs them. Dave says if they had just bitten the bullet and spent the money to bring in Goldberg from day 1 of the Invasion, he would have paid for himself and then some with PPV matches against Austin and Rock and the Invasion might not have been a flop and maybe business wouldn't be collapsing. Probably still would have been though because it was more than one dumb decision that has gotten them to this point. Anyway, Goldberg still doesn't want to work a full schedule, so the discussions right now seem to hinge on bringing him in for a one-off match at Wrestlemania (and one would presume that would be against Austin, unless WWE just hates money or something). But of course, if that match happens, you have to talk one of them (almost certainly Goldberg) into doing the job and then that'll be a whole other argument.
  • Shawn Michaels is planning to work some Raw house shows soon, since he's the champion now. Whether or not his back can hold up to it is the big question, but word is he wants to work more matches and give it a shot. He's defending the title against Triple H in a 3 Stages of Hell match at the PPV.
  • Notes from Raw: Batista beat RVD in a 2 minute match by DQ that the crowd was dead for and Dave is amazed that they managed to kill RVD off this fast. That Triple H feud did him no favors at all. Ric Flair, who has been pitching to cut a promo on Shawn Michaels for weeks, finally got the chance and delivered a classic Flair promo that did more in 10 minutes to get Michaels over with fans who may not remember him than WWE has done in months. It was the best promo on Raw in ages and by far the highlight of the show. Randy Orton's RNN segments continue to be great. And everything else was varying degrees of average, boring, forgettable, or bad. Nothing much to note here.
  • Notes from Smackdown: main event of the show was 4.5 star match with Angle/Benoit/Edge/Eddie Guerrero in a 4-way that went for the last half hour of the show. Can't hate on that. Edge was tremendous in his selling and his comebacks and Kurt Angle proved why he's probably the best wrestler in the world today. Just excellent. Lesnar got exposed in a promo, showing he's still not ready to hold up his end of mic work (yeah, he's never been great at that). And of course, the show ended with Torrie Wilson going to Dawn Marie's hotel room and seemingly gave in to Dawn's lesbian advances in order to prevent her from marrying her dad. But of course, the show went off the air with that being left vague so you don't know what actually happened. This wasn't WWE's idea. They filmed 2 different versions of this, both of which went further than UPN was comfortable with and they ended up editing the hell out of it so what you saw on TV was a very tamed down, edited version of what was filmed. The "uncensored" version is expected to air on the PPV.
  • Godfather was released by WWE this week. His contract was set to expire in a few weeks anyway and wasn't being renewed, so WWE decided to cut him early, but still paid him his last few weeks. After he was released, they tried to talk him into coming back for one final appearance, in which he would participate in an angle where Scott Steiner beat him up. Realizing that it was their way of burying his character on the way out the door, Godfather tried to hold them up for extra perks, requesting first class airfare and a limo. WWE balked at that so it didn't end up happening. Dave figures TNA will grab him ASAP (surprisingly, no. I can't believe Russo didn't jump at the chance to do his version of the pimp gimmick without Vince McMahon limitations). Ron Simmons' contract is also expiring soon and isn't being renewed, though there's talk of hiring him as an agent.
  • Jeff Hardy and Justin Credible have both been suspended for repeatedly showing up late to events. Of course, Hardy in particular is still a star, so he's only been suspended from house shows, they're still using him on TV. Which is probably perfectly fine with Jeff anyway since his heart clearly hasn't been in it for a long time. Jamal of 3 Minute Warning has also been taken off TV for now, reportedly due to some legal issues but Dave doesn't know the details.
  • Rey Mysterio is out getting arthroscopic knee surgery. There was some drama backstage over who should be the one to "injure" him on TV to write him off. The original plan was for Benoit to be the one, leading to Mysterio returning at the Rumble to get revenge. Then it was changed to be Matt Hardy and that was the plan, which would have roped him into the top of the Smackdown card along with guys like Benoit, Angle, Eddie, etc. (basically, this would have created the Smackdown Seven). But then Vince swooped in and decided.....Albert! This was pretty controversial, since most people see Albert as a big, boring guy with no charisma who has been rotting away on Velocity for months who was only given the nod because business is down and when business is down, Vince goes with big guys. When Matt Hardy found out that his big break got taken away from him in favor of Albert, he was so pissed that some people thought he was going to walk out of the TV tapings. Hardy even went on his website and wrote a blog post vaguely addressing it and his unhappiness over it. Michael Hayes was able to talk Hardy off the ledge and keep him from walking out. Several other wrestlers went to Vince and tried to go to bat for Hardy, most vocally Edge and Rikishi, who argued that Hardy had earned the spot. But Vince stuck to his guns, and Albert ended up "injuring" Rey to write him off TV.
  • Remember a couple of weeks ago when WWE put out a press release personally attacking the World Wildlife Fund's lawyer? Well, the lawyer is said to be looking into filing a defamation lawsuit against WWE over what they said about him (much of which, indeed, was outright false or, at the very least, purposefully misleading). Considering WWE has already gotten their asses handed to them at every turn in this legal battle, to the point where even the judges in the case seemed irritated at them, to put out that release seems like the height of arrogance. There's now concern within the company that a defamation lawsuit, if filed, could end up being costly because, much like the original lawsuit, this is pretty cut and dry and WWE is obviously in the wrong here (I'm not sure how this ever turned out).
  • On Tough Enough, one of the contestants (Jonah) faked a neck injury as a "rib" and the coaches (Bill Demott, Al Snow, and Ivory) all laughed it up like it was hilarious. Lance Storm went on his website and posted about it, saying if there's one thing you don't joke about in this business, it's injuries. He said he can't imagine how the other wrestler who thought he had seriously hurt Jonah must have felt and said he didn't understand why the coaches acted like it was so funny. Storm said not only himself, but most of the WWE locker room were offended and didn't find it funny. "How do you think a guy like Darren Drozdov would feel watching this show, making a joke out of a supposed neck injury?" he wrote.
  • Paul Bearer did an interview recently talking about his leaving WWE and his wife's battle with cancer. He didn't have a lot of nice things to say. "They were not as understanding as you might have been led to believe. I only received two calls from anyone in the WWE management the entire time my wife was fighting cancer. Both calls were made by Stephanie McMahon. I only received a handful of calls from my so-called 'friends.' Undertaker may have called twice, and that was after I told the world he never called. It’s out of sight, out of mind in 'rasslin. As far as payroll is concerned, you must understand I was under a guaranteed money contract. They had to pay me. It certainly wasn’t a favor by any means. I didn’t have insurance. Dianna’s treatments cost close to $100,000. That cleaned me out. Did anybody offer any assistance? Please. All that glitters is not gold, friends." Dave notes that Paul Bearer and Undertaker had a recent falling out also. Elsewhere in the interview, Bearer said Vince McMahon "and his stooges" made his life a living hell over his weight gain and bullied him about it constantly. Sounds about right.
  • Gail Kim made her WWE debut at a house show, beating Dawn Marie in a bra and panties match. Dave says Paul Heyman was the one responsible for getting her signed (no word here about how Vince thought she was ugly and Jim Ross had to tell him about how popular Asian porn sites were to convince him to sign her).
COMING JAN. 6: more on WWE/Goldberg discussions, Bob Sapp wins Japan MVP award, WWE Armageddon PPV fallout, and oh yeah....Dave reviews Hulk Hogan's book. Only 2 Rewinds left...

PROGRAMMING NOTE: I tried to post this earlier this morning but I guess it didn't work. I just noticed. Said it had to be approved by the mods first. So I deleted that one and re-posting now. We'll see how this goes.

EDIT: Looks like it was the Road Dogg story that got this post flagged and kept it from posting earlier. Dammit Road Dogg, do you ever stop sucking?

  • I usually try to avoid too much MMA, but the top story this week is a looooooong recap of the Ken Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz UFC PPV so we gotta run with it, if for no other reason than the fact it's one of the most significant fights in UFC history. Besides, half of this is just Dave talking about how UFC did such a better job with this show than WWE has done with anything in ages. The build-up, promotion, and video packages for this fight blew away anything WWE has done in years and exposed all their problems when it comes to an inability to make people care about matches. WWE has a crew of writers whose job is to book enticing storylines and they can't come close to how UFC promoted this real-life story. Fear Factor host Joe Rogan, as UFC's resident color commentator, did a better job of building excitement than Tazz or Jerry Lawler have ever done. Big name celebrities were in attendance. The gate was the largest MMA gate in the U.S. and bigger than all but a handful of Wrestlemania gates. All without TV and without much mainstream media coverage. In WWE, Shamrock was considered a "bad promo" because he didn't cut promos like they wanted. But his interviews going into this fight were the best in UFC history and went a long way towards this show's huge success.
  • That being said, Shamrock was totally blown out in what Dave feels was a one-sided fight. Shamrock looked good but he's 38 and simply was outclassed by the younger, faster Ortiz. It went 3 rounds of mostly ground and pound, with Ortiz making hamburger out of Shamrock's face. Even when Shamrock was able to escape, he was too gassed to do much else. After 3 rounds, Shamrock's corner stopped the fight. Ortiz put on a shirt that said "I killed Kenny...you bastard!" but the crowd immediately turned on him when he did and his own trainer demanded he take it off. Afterward, Shamrock was respectful and hugged Ortiz and did an interview making no excuses. When they asked Ortiz about a fight with Chuck Liddell, he responded that UFC better pay them more money for it, or they'll take that fight to Japan (presumably PRIDE, though he didn't explicitly say so). Needless to say, UFC officials weren't thrilled about that. Otherwise, it was a great show. They announced the return of Tank Abbott, which was a surprise since rumors had him going to PRIDE. Bradshaw was there in the front row going nuts the whole show but was never identified on camera. And that's as much as we're dwelling on this show.
  • Linda McMahon had to face the investors this week and try to put a positive spin on the fact that WWE just suffered its first true money-losing quarter since 1997. WWE lost over $1.6 million this past quarter, due mostly to the money they were forced to pay the William Morris Agency for a lawsuit they lost as well as losses from The World complex in Time Square. Linda said that WWE still considers TV ratings to be the key driver of business and blamed falling ratings on males 17-34 allegedly watching less television these days. Sure, why not? She said they expected business to go down with the brand split and predicted it would take 12-18 months for things to get back to where they should be. Well, we're 8 months in and numbers continue to fall and other than Brock Lesnar, not any other new star has been made by it. In regards to The World complex, Linda admitted there've been mistakes and said they plan to rebrand it again soon as "The World of WWE" after previously deciding to remove the WWE name. They're going to rename the restaurant part JR's Bar & Grill. One investor in particular called Linda out on the declining ratings, blaming it on Triple H being the primary focus (who he noted was Linda's daughter's boyfriend) and mentioning the necrophilia storyline and argued that WWE's problems stem from terrible creative. It was the most critical question Linda has ever faced in one of these calls. Linda defended Triple H, first claiming that Triple H and Stephanie's relationship is new and thus can't be credited for his main event push (no one knows the exact timeline, but given that he was cheating on Chyna with her, this relationship goes back at least 2 years, so you can't exactly call it new). Linda listed Triple H, along with Lesnar, Shawn Michaels, and Scott Steiner as their big four stars. The investor responded saying Michaels "is done" (lol) and that Steiner is just another washed up WCW guy (ok, fair) and that WWE still isn't creating new stars. He said that while WWE was better off financially than WCW was at the end, creatively, they're just as bad. Linda responded, "We are not WCW" and talked about efforts to create new stars out of Edge and Test. This was clearly not the conversation Linda wanted to have with all these other big money investors listening.
  • Linda was also asked about Steve Austin and said they've talked several times and they're "good friends" but that she didn't know if he was ever coming back. Austin made a public appearance later the same day and was asked the same thing by everyone. He said WWE has been trying to get him to come back in January to build for a Wrestlemania match, but he hasn't decided whether to do it or not yet. He talked about wanting to get his home life in order first before he focuses on a wrestling comeback. Jim Ross also did an interview saying he talks to Austin all the time and expects him back eventually. So it sounds like things are maybe warming up between the two sides finally.
  • And finally, Linda spent a good chunk of the conference call talking about their issues with the World Wildlife Fund. She said that when she and Vince purchased the company from Vince Sr. in 1982, they trademarked the WWF name and logo. At the time, Wake Forest University had an issue with it because the logo was similar, and in exchange for getting the college to drop their claim, Vince made an agreement to never sell WWF merch on the Wake Forest campus. Easy enough. In 1994, the Wildlife people said, "Hey, that's our letters" and a bunch of legal shit happened and they reached an agreement where WWF wouldn't market itself as "WWF" outside of North America. They would have to use the full name "World Wrestling Federation." Of course, they immediately and constantly began violating that agreement, but the Wildlife people ignored it until Vince snatched up the wwf.com domain name, which is in use worldwide, and obviously could create confusion among any web users trying to find one or the other. Thus the lawsuit, which Vince lost handily and they were forced to rename themselves WWE. Then they had until Nov. 10th of this year to stop selling "WWF" branded merchandise, which resulted in them having to stop and reprint a bunch of stuff as well as take all old WWF footage off some WWF Classics TV show that I guess airs in Europe (they're currently airing WCW footage instead).
  • Well now, the Wildlife Fund is seeking damages, to the tune of $360 million. Linda claimed the Wildlife people offered to drop all further legal action in exchange for a $90 million settlement and they would extend the deadline until next year. WWE refused. As a result, the Fund is now going to court to try to stop sales of a WWF-branded video game that is due out this month, which is expected to be a big Christmas seller. WWE put out a statement calling it a "Grinch-like move to deny wrestling fans around the world the opportunity to receive these products as Christmas gifts." And in typical WWE fashion, they put out another statement attacking the Fund personally, specifically their lawyer who they claim lives in Switzerland but has no Swiss law license. They conveniently leave out the part that he does have a license to practice law in the UK, and that's where this case was decided, which renders WWE's entire "point" meaningless. They also accused him of having involvement with some financial scandals in the UK and even tried to tie his Islamic charity to the 9/11 tragedies, accusing his charity of funneling money to Al-Qaeda. Just the usual Jerry McDevitt bullshit. Anyway, video game maker THQ said all games with the WWF logo were shipped prior to the original Nov. 10 deadline and therefore, they won't recall them. But a British court has said THQ will be ruled in contempt if any WWF-branded games are sold and recommended THQ should—for their sake—recall the games and bill WWE for the damages because, as the judge said, "THQ must look at WWE for the losses which have been caused because it was the WWE that got them into this mess." One final note to all this: Linda McMahon admitted that they did consider doing an angle at the recent UK Rebellion PPV where Vince McMahon would have faced a wrestler in a panda suit on the show and beat him up and pinned him. Dave says, considering the damages part of the lawsuit is still ongoing, that would have been monumentally stupid and luckily, it seems WWE agreed because they didn't do it. Not even sure why they'd admit thinking about it.
  • PRIDE had a sold out show at the Tokyo Dome that aired on PPV in Japan and the U.S. but were edited to be completely different shows. The Japan version was based around the retirement of Nobuhiko Takada, facing his former understudy Kiyoshi Tamura and was heavily built around their old 90s UWFI rivalry. It was the rivalry that everything was building to back in the 90s, but it never happened because the company closed. Symbolically, this was seen as the true death of UWFI, 6 years after it actually shut down and closed that incomplete chapter. It was an emotional angle that packed the 3rd largest MMA crowd in history into the Tokyo Dome. But in the U.S., that meant nothing to American fans and the Takada match and retirement ceremony didn't even air as part of the show. Instead the American version of the PPV was edited to showcase Fedor Emeliankenko beating the brakes off Heath Herring and setting himself up to challenge for the heavyweight title in the match that made him a star. Takada got knocked out in his retirement match and they had a big emotional ceremony after. And some other MMA stuff.
  • Long obituary for Japanese wrestler Thunder Sugiyama, who died at age 62 this week. Big star in the 60s and early-70s, was one of the first recruits by Giant Baba when he started AJPW and later had a brief run in NJPW. After retirement, he became a millionaire in other businesses. But in 1999, due to diabetes complications, he ended up having both of his arms and both of his legs amputated, which led to a lot of media coverage since he was quasi-famous and lost all 4 limbs. Well then.
  • Another obituary for Billy Joe Travis, who died of a heart attack at 41. He went tanning, drove back to his mother's house, walked through the front door, and dropped dead of a heart attack. He was best known for his years in Memphis, and was regarded as one of the most promising stars in the business in the late-80s. But he had a nasty drug problem and, well, it never really happened. Most people remember him best for being the guy who legitimately got arrested on live TV during one of the Saturday morning Memphis shows, due to failure to pay child support. Cops showed up to the show to get him, they asked if they could film the arrest, cops said sure, and they did, but pretended it was for something else and made an angle out of it.
WATCH: Billy Joe Travis gets legitimately arrested during live USWA broadcast
  • Fuji Network in Japan had Bob Sapp Day on their channel. From 5:30am until 7pm that night, Sapp repeatedly cut into shows, appeared in live interview segments, did talk shows, game shows, etc. All damn day. It's been said that American fans can't comprehend just how big a star Sapp is in Japan right now. Even people who don't follow wrestling or MMA know who he is because he's become something of a sensation throughout the country.
  • As further proof that anything can happen, this week's issue of Tokyo Sports featured a front page photo of Antonio Inoki shaking hands with Hisashi Shinma. For the unfamiliar, this is the equivalent of Bret Hart and Vince McMahon shaking hands on the front page of the USA Today. Inoki and Shinma were the minds behind NJPW's success in the 70s and 80s, with Shinma being the primary booker when Inoki was the top star. But an embezzlement scandal in NJPW in the mid-80s led to Shinma being fired. He and Inoki remained friends and they even worked together in 1989 when Shinma acted as Inoki's campaign manager for his successful Senate campaign. However, the 2 later had a major falling out, resulting in Shinma publicly revealing Inoki's participation in the embezzlement scandal as well as even reporting Inoki for cheating on his taxes, which led to a lot of legal headaches for Inoki. So it was a pretty serious beef. However, they have squashed it and, with NJPW struggling right now, word is Shinma will be returning to the company to help dig them out of their hole. It's also worth noting that during the 80s, Shinma was close friends with Vince McMahon and acted as the NJPW liaison to WWF during that time. In fact, he was the on-screen figurehead "President" of WWE prior to Jack Tunney, though he rarely did much of note. The relationship is still good and Shinma noted that one of the first things he wants to do when he starts working for NJPW again is send rookie Shinsuke Nakamura to WWE for him to gain more experience (took, like, 15 years but it happened).
  • Former UFC heavyweight champ Josh Barnett, currently serving a worldwide 6-month MMA suspension for failing steroid tests, is making his pro wrestling debut for NJPW at the Jan. 4th Tokyo Dome show. Barnett has been a wrestling fan for years, particularly NJPW and the old UWFI in the 90s, and has been trying to get involved in wrestling for awhile. He's friends with Bob Sapp and that opened the door for him, though in Japan, most people know him as Sapp's coach/cornerman rather than being a former UFC champ in his own right, because "UFC" doesn't mean much in Japan (not only does Barnett work this show, he ends up main eventing it, losing to IWGP champ Yuji Nagata).
  • Chyna is scheduled to return to NJPW next week, this time teaming with Masahiro Chono to face Tadao Yasuda and Kazunari Murakami. I only mention this because it ends up being Chyna's last match for almost a decade. She quietly retired afterward, only returning for one final match in 2011 in TNA. But for all intents and purposes, this is the end of the road for Chyna's pro wrestling career.
  • Hulk Hogan is doing his book tour and it kinda shows the differences between Vince and Hogan. Privately, Vince has been telling anyone who will listen that he's done with Hogan, doesn't want him back in WWE, and is running him down to anyone who will listen. Hogan, knowing it's inevitable that he'll be back some day, has been much more diplomatic in interviews, praising Vince and calling WWE his home. Hogan admitted in one interview that he was supposed to return at Survivor Series, but the deal fell apart due to creative differences, but that's all he would say (creative differences = he didn't want to put over Brock Lesnar again). Hogan talked about how wrestling is predetermined, but argued against it being choreographed. He says guys like himself and Rock can go out there and call a match on the fly. Dave thinks that's a pretty poor example to use, since Hogan, Rock, and Pat Patterson all flew to Florida prior to Wrestlemania last year and spent 2 days rehearsing every step of that match beforehand. Anyway, Dave promises to have reviews of Hogan's and Piper's books in the next week or two. He's read Piper's already and enjoyed it but hints that there's some inaccuracies. He's heard Hogan's is pretty full of bullshit too, but also says we all expected that going in.
  • Bret Hart's condition post-stroke has improved significantly, and this week, he even got his driver's license back and is allowed to drive again, which is seen as a major step in his improvement.
  • Vince Russo returned to TNA this week as an on-screen character, appearing under a mask as Mr. Wrestling III and hitting Ron Killings with a guitar and allowing Jeff Jarrett to win the NWA title. The backstage fallout from this resulted in Sean Waltman quitting the company. Waltman doesn't like Russo and even though he was promised Russo doesn't have any hand in creative, Waltman didn't believe it and quit in protest of Russo's return. Waltman had no-showed TNA's previous PPV at the last moment due to injury and TNA was upset, but decided to bring him back anyway because he was extremely apologetic and because, well, they need stars. Also, Waltman being there is pretty much the only reason Scott Hall decided to come back as well. So with Waltman quitting, this leads to questions about whether Hall will be back either. TNA was also hoping having Waltman on the roster would lead to Chyna coming in, but that's probably not happening now either. Waltman has a deep hatred for Russo's booking and also felt having a company work its wrestlers the way WCW used to do isn't healthy for the company, and he felt he was being misled by TNA about Russo's involvement.
  • In fact, despite management denials, almost nobody in the company believes that Russo is only a talent. Pretty much everyone figures that if he's not involved in creative yet, he will be soon. During the negotiations with Panda Energy, Waltman himself went to bat for Jerry Jarrett, saying he wanted Jarrett in charge and that he wouldn't stay with the company if Russo was in charge. True to his word, Russo showed up and Waltman quit. TNA tried to pacify him, even discussing doing a match that night where Waltman and Curt Hennig would win the TNA tag team titles. Waltman refused, saying he was only staying and working that night's show because he felt he owed it to the company after no-showing the previous week, but he didn't want to win any titles because he insisted he was quitting after the show. And, sure enough, he did (he stuck to his word too. Waltman didn't return to TNA until after Russo left in 2005. At some point though, they squashed their beef and they appear to be on good terms now. But this is the end of the road for Waltman in TNA for awhile. It was also the end of Scott Hall. He also didn't return again until after Russo left. Also worth noting: Waltman was right. Despite TNA's denials, Russo was indeed involved in creative again during this time).
  • Other notes from Russo's return: aside from the backstage drama, the Jarrett/Killings NWA title match was actually a strong bout, with the crowd more into it, and Jarrett, than anything in the company's short history so far. Most in the locker room were against the Russo angle to end the match, but otherwise, it went over great. Almost nobody in the locker room knew Russo was returning, which led to the familiar WCW-style "working the boys" complaints but Russo and Jarrett were celebrating it backstage like they pulled off the angle of the year. There was thought that Mike Tenay might quit over it as well, because those 2 have heat going back to WCW (Russo once tried to book Tenay to wrestle a match in WCW with Scott Steiner's valet Midajah, but Tenay refused, saying his contract was to be an announcer, not a wrestler, and Russo was furious about it and the 2 haven't gotten along since).
  • In case you're wondering whether or not Russo has any involvement in creative, Brian Christopher's valet April dumped him for Goldylocks, with the two of them leaving together in what was played up as an "OMG, they're lesbians!" type of angle. This ain't Jerry Jarrett booking, let's just say that. Dave can't confirm it was Russo, but in all the various WWF lawsuits over the years (Sable, Nicole Bass, etc.) it appears Russo asked just about every woman in WWF to participate in a lesbian angle. So having a lesbian angle in TNA the week he returns obviously leads one to assume.
  • There's also controversy over BG James (Road Dogg) calling Lenny Lane a "faggot" during a promo and also some other homophobic comments towards the Bruce character (who's entire gimmick is predicated on getting heel heat for being gay). TNA is claiming the line wasn't scripted and is saying James used it on his own. Jerry Jarrett apologized online for it the next day on the wrestlingclassics.com message board he posts on. (In case Road Dogg's 2020 social media posts haven't shown exactly what kind of person he still is, here's the full quote he said about Lenny Lane: "This goes for all of you who are politically correct. This won't be a gay bashing, I'm just about to beat the hell out a faggot." Even though I'm quoting someone else, I still feel gross just typing that) There was similar heat a few weeks ago when Brian Christopher called April a "cunt" during the show.
  • Steve Austin pled no contest to domestic assault charges in San Antonio court this week. Under the plea bargain, he was given 1 year of probation, a $1000 fine, 80 hours of community service, and must undergo counseling and complete a 24-week domestic violence class. Austin also agreed that any further physical or verbal abuse towards Debra would be considered a probation violation. Under the terms of the probation, he's also not allowed to drink alcohol for 1 year. Dave says that one might be tricky, especially if he returns to wrestling. This was brought up in court and the attorney noted that Austin's usual post-match celebrations would technically be considered a violation. But they also said that it likely wouldn't be enforced since it would be considered acting (yeah, when he returned to WWE in 2003, I think he spent most of that year using non-alcoholic beers for his gimmick. Better safe than sorry). Once Austin completes his probation, the charges will be expunged from his record.
  • After weeks of Hot Lesbian Action, gay weddings, and corpse fucking, Vince McMahon stood up at a booking meeting this week and loudly declared "shock TV is dead!" and insisted it doesn't work anymore and they will no longer be doing it. So maybe that's the end of Russo-style desperate ratings grabs for now. Keep in mind, literally 4 weeks ago, he sent out a memo to the creative team mocking their critics and insisting that more shock TV was the answer. This man is insane.
  • WWE had a recent tour in India and nobody had fun. It was considered the trip from hell, and had nothing to do with the plane ride this time. The trip was long and uncomfortable and when they got there, the wrestlers were shocked at the living conditions in the country. WWE's stars were staying at a nice hotel, but just outside the front door, they saw multiple people literally drop their pants to shit in the streets and people living in gutters and filth. Several wrestlers also got sick from drinking the water and eating the food, with Lance Storm and William Regal so sick they couldn't work some of the shows. Booker T got so sick as they were leaving that he had to be hooked up to an IV and rushed to the hospital for dehydration as soon as they got back to the U.S., which caused them to have to rewrite some of that week's TV. The shows were a big success, drawing large crowds, but most of the wrestlers said afterwards that they never want to go back.
  • Notes from Raw: the newly reunited Dudleys challenged for the tag titles. This wasn't planned, since most people feel it's too soon for them to be going for the titles already, but it was a last-minute re-write due to Booker T not being available. The first hour of the show was written around that match and a bunch of backstage skits featuring Booker T & Goldust which had to be scrapped. Match was an overbooked mess, with multiple re-starts due to Eric Bischoff's new rule enforcer, Val Venis (now using his real name Sean Morley). Dudleys stole Christian and Chris Jericho's clothes backstage and threw them out to the crowd and also revealed a jar of "ass cream" in one of their bags. Dave says he flipped over to Monday Night Football during this to see how that game was going because otherwise, he would have split his gut laughing at this masterful attempt at humor (sarcastic, Raw-reviewing Dave is the best. This used to be how he reviewed Nitro near the end and I've missed it). There were also a bunch of jokes about Jericho and Christian experiencing "shrinkage." Christ, Vince McMahon has the sense of humor of a 12-year-old. Elsewhere in the show, Hurricane hit a shining wizard on somebody and Jim Ross actually called the move by name. This has been a running joke throughout the 2002 Observers about how WWE wrestlers have started using that move (stolen from Great Muta) and none of the announcers ever called it by name or even seemed to know what it was. So with JR finally calling it by name, Dave says, "so that storyline has concluded." Batista (no longer Dave) is being managed by Ric Flair now. Rico is no longer an effeminate hair dresser and is now being booked as a tough guy, which the crowd is not buying. And first thing they did after giving him this gimmick change was have him lose clean as a sheet to Goldust in 3 minutes. And main event was Shawn Michaels vs. RVD in what was regarded as something of a dream match by a lot of fans. When ECW was around, "Shawn Michaels vs. RVD" was always the WWF/ECW interpromotional match fans wanted. Well, we got it and....it was a disappointment. It was Michaels' first match on Raw in almost 5 years. It was good, but nowhere near what people were hoping for.
  • Notes from Smackdown tapings for next week: Bull Buchanan is now known as B-Squared and is teaming with John Cena. Tazz had a family emergency and had to pull out of the show at the last minute, leading WWE to put Ernest "The Cat" Miller in his place doing commentary. This show hasn't aired yet as of press time, but those who heard the live feed say Miller was horrendous, didn't know any of the characters or storylines, and Michael Cole had to prep him on everything during each commercial break. Stephanie McMahon suspended Brock Lesnar for his actions last week, even using the "I didn't screw Lesnar. Lesnar screwed Lesnar" line. Keep that in mind next time WWE claims Bret Hart is the one who won't move on from the Screwjob. Stephanie also made a bunch of period references at some point in the show, claiming it was that time of the month and she was being visited by her Aunt Flo, who visits her monthly. Kurt Angle, playing his goofy dork role, acted like he didn't know what she was talking about. Dave is already dreading watching this show. This, yet again, reeks of Vince McMahon 12-year-old "humor." Scott Steiner pinched Nidia's ass, because sexual assault is hilarious, and this led to Jamie Noble getting obliterated by Steiner. Guerreros vs. Angle/Benoit was good but otherwise, this sounds like a dreadful show.
  • Notes from this week's Smackdown: this one was a good show. Mysterio/Noble was short but awesome finish. Guerreros complained about an unsafe working environment, leading Dave to talk about the Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart backstage fight in 1997 that led to Shawn briefly claiming he was quitting because WWF was an unsafe work environment. Paul Heyman cut a great promo about Lesnar. They had a backstage segment where you could see Raw announcer JR in the background and Dave says this never would have happened a year ago, but quality control and attention to detail went out the window when WCW died. Edge vs. Big Show in the main event for the title felt like Edge being a sacrificial lamb in the Lesnar feud and exposed Edge as not quite being ready for main events.
  • Various WWE notes: American Dragon, Paul London, and Michael Shane are all working dark matches at TV tapings next week. In regards to DDP's recent release, he was planning on returning to the ring against doctor's orders, but Vince McMahon made the call to listen to the doctors, who said DDP could be risking paralysis if he wrestles again. So Vince won't let him wrestle anymore and they mutually agreed on his contract release afterward. Undertaker's wife gave birth to a baby girl this week.
  • Dave reviews the recent episode of Tough Enough and there's something pretty interesting here in retrospect. One of the contestants, Nick, had a bicep injury and went to the doctor for it. The doctor told him he had a partially torn bicep and to take a couple of weeks off to rest the injury and Nick followed the doctor's advice and did just that. As a result, the WWE trainers felt he could never make it in pro wrestling because he refused to work through the injury. They all pretty much treated him like a pussy and he ended up getting cut from the show because of it. Gee, maybe he should just take a handful of pain pills like everyone else and end up dead at 40. This fucking company, I swear.... anyway, Bill DeMott, who is on record saying he's had so many concussions that doctors have told him he's risking permanent brain damage, was one of the most appalled at Nick refusing to wrestle with the injury because Bill DeMott is an asshole.
  • Jim Ross in his Ross Report on WWE.com talked openly about wanting Steve Austin to return but said he needs to get his marriage issues straightened out first. In regards to Chyna returning, JR said it would be challenging because of Triple H's relationship with Stephanie, which makes him the first person in WWE management to openly admit that Chyna is basically blackballed from the company so long as those 2 are together. He also said he wants Goldberg to come in, but said he's making too much money in Japan and they won't match those offers. He also point blank said Hogan was supposed to return at Survivor Series but it fell apart because he refused to job to Lesnar. He also said WWE doesn't need a 49-year-old guy who's about to qualify for AARP membership to be their top guy and Hogan basically needs to get over his ego and know his place in the business at this point in his career. He also said they would love to have Ken Shamrock back, but only if he's committed to WWE full time, which has always been the hold-up.
NEXT WEDNESDAY: Mr. Wrestling" Tim Woods passes away, Roddy Piper autobiography review, Hiroshi Tanahashi gets stabbed, and more. Only 4 Rewinds left...

Am I INTP or ENTP? Question won't stop nagging me

I am sorry for this ramble that doubles as a vent/rant, and may or may not make any sense. I just really want to figure out my type. Prepare for a very long post.
The more I delve into my research, the more I know about MBTI and the cognitive functions, the further I get from the conclusion. Am I an INTP or just a stunted, introverted ENTP? This has been nagging me for months by now, and I'd really like closure because it has taken FAR too long. I'd like to move on because it's become almost a compulsion at this point. As soon as I do anything that contradicts my behavior of being one or the other type, I get onto Google and throw myself down the black hole of self-analysis. I've watched dozens of videos related to the issue, tried MANY different search phrases that pertain to this issue on both Google and Reddit, visited forums, taken tests, and even used the second page of Google results. I am approaching my wit's end and running out of trails to follow.
But as to why I have become obsessed with figuring out? Why can't I just be myself? Why don't I just ditch this inane system that attempts to slot infinitely complex personalities into 16 boxes? WHY? Beats me. I'm too far into the thick of it to stop by now. MBTI (and subsequently other forms of typology) has been a source of finally feeling understood, self-discovery, realizations on how diverse people really are, and almost as importantly, memes. It has integrated itself into me at this point.

I am quite familiar with the Cognitive Functions and their definitions. I can quite confidently assume that I'm not any of the feeler types. I've been scored as INTP by the 16personalities test (74% I, 85% N, 68% T, 68%P — 69% Turbulent). Many other of the cognitive function tests that Reddit likes also point towards INTP, often trailed very closely by ENTP and even INTJ sometimes. A lot of these tests also like to give me very high Ni, sometimes almost as highly as Ti. I am also pretty confident that I'm enneagram 5w4 (which might be important later.) I am also not very old (turning 17 very soon), which may complicate things as functions are supposedly not in a very developed state yet.
Here are results from some of the other tests I've done:
Sakinorva personality test: Ne - 40, Ni - 37.6, Se - 15, Si - 23, Te - 25, Ti - 39, Fe - 22, Fi - 26 (ENTP as grant type, INTP as myers function type; I actually scored equally on both ENTP and INTP, 79 points both; that somehow caused the site to break and not display the description for INTP)
IDRLabs: Ne - 64%, Ni - 90%, Se - 39%, Te - 43%, Ti - 68%, Fe - 44%, Fi - 50% (Most likely INTP)
Keys 2 Cognition: Se - 23.6%, Si - 29.7%, Ne - 43.9%, Ni - 26.4%, Te - 31.5%, Ti - 42.9%, Fe - 12.6%, Fi - 29.6% ("Most likely INTP")
I must say that I more closely relate to the stereotype of the INTP. I remember when I first discovered MBTI back in March of 2020, finding INTP felt like I found my lost cousins. I found memes in the nature of iamverysmart, and posts about thoughts that I have personally had. It felt I was finally understood.
As to some of the relatable traits I have:
- Procrastination problems but still get good grades in school
- Like to think I'm decent with logic and abstract concepts
- Spends a lot of his time in his head, failure to live in the moment
- Research things for the hell of it, has dozens of chrome tabs open at any time, am a wealth of random information, Googles thoughts they have and new things they come across
- Am somewhat emotionally unyielding, and I find it difficult to deal with emotional situations and kids
- Prefer staying away from social situations
I am well aware of bias coming from the age demographic of the subreddit, and perhaps the fact that this side of the internet is more likely to be introverted.
Now to get into the thick of it:
A lot of traits I've observed of myself are ambiguous as to implying whether I'm ENTP or INTP, like social introversion. INTP's often say they're definitely introverted, whilst ENTP's are often considered "The most introverted extroverts". As a kid, I was often quite talkative and loud in school and almost never held back the opportunity to answer a teacher's question (I was usually the first to raise my hand). I got in trouble very often for being unable to resist the urge to talk about things, whether it related to the lesson or not. Teachers often described me as loud to my parents. I played with the other kids a lot, but also very often found myself wandering the fields, inside my own imagination. Through the years I've become more introverted and lost a bit of confidence, but I don't feel socially inept or afraid of socializing like many INTP's claim to be. Sometimes, when I'm around my friends or a situation I feel comfortable with, I can even become one of the most talkative and clownish people.
In parties or social events, I usually stick with going to people I know or mutual acquaintances. I usually have fun in such situations, even. Although, my social battery does tend to run out quite quickly — I'm often the first one to lose their social energy, and after an especially exhausting event, I go home feeling absolutely finished. This points to social introversion, but from what I know about the types, ENTP's don't necessarily need to be extroverted.
As to cognitive functions...
It is said that your dominant function is most unconscious, but it's very unclear which function it is for me. Is it Ti? Is it Ne? I've done some Googling as to what these two functions feel like for their respective dominant users, but I just find myself relating to both descriptions. I don't know whether I'm using Ti all the time without knowing, or Ne all the time without knowing. I heavily exhibit characteristics of both...
But I think the thing I should bring up is how these functions manifested in me as a child. It is said that your dominant function is not quite established until the age of 6, and will be the only one you have up until the age of about 12. This is only supposedly of course, and I am skeptical because I don't actually see any empirical evidence that this is the case, but I'll take this into consideration anyway.
When I reflect on some of my behavior patterns as a kid, it sometimes seems as if I exhibited a lot of Ne. Simple patterns on the ground/wall were turned into games/something else in my mind; I could see a couple of mounds of sand in a sandbox, throw rocks and make them "shoot stones at each other," as if I was recreating some sort of Tower Defense video game. The grid pattern of a tiled floor could be a map of some fantastical place. In an outdoor park, the different elevations and hills were different regions of some world I'd imagined. The popcorn ceiling and shapes of the clouds, I always was trying to make something out of them. From my understanding, that's Ne at work in a very raw form.
However, I also see some Ti-heavy aspects in me as a kid. I read a LOT of non-fiction books as a kid; everything from plants, dinosaurs, space, you name it. I also loved to try and figure out how things worked. According to my dad, once I rode a teeter-totter only for a bit before getting off and observing springs that kept the plank level. Lego was also one of my favorite past-times, and I'd often go on YouTube to see these very complex mechanical machines like Lego Guns, Candy dispensers that needed money to operate, etc. I tried to understand how every component in these contraptions worked and went out of my way to attempt to build them by incorporating things I saw others build (some of them even worked :D). Rube Goldberg machines were one of the many things that fascinated me due to their mechanical complexity. I also had very little difficulty grasping new concepts in school and often figured them out on the fly before teachers completed their lesson.
Even as a kid, I had my own understanding of things, and would very often correct other kids when they said something I didn't think was right, like mis-pronouncing a word. Even though Ti supposedly values precision, I do remember spewing out a lot of factually incorrect BS/explanations just for the hell of sounding like I know what I'm talking about. I remember on one instance, me and my friend were talking about fish and I said something along the lines of "eating fish eyes makes your eyes bigger," and went on sounding confident about it, even though I knew that came out of absolutely nowhere.
But that's enough info about me as a child, here's some observations of present me:
I am a pretty serious social chameleon. Both ENTP's and INTP's often exhibit this trait, but only a year or so did I realize that it's not exactly normal to adjust your behavior to conform to a group as much as I do; I pick up on the "vibe" of a group quickly and adjust almost subconsciously... I even caught myself once mimicking somebody's off-pronunciation of a word in a Discord voice chat full of European-accented people. My whole temperament can change; if people are quiet, I'll be quiet. If they're very noisy and sarcastic, I'll adjust myself to match them (considering I have the energy/willpower to do so).
I spend a lot of time in my head. Often it's like a constant debate is going on in my head about everything and anything (Ti?). I sometimes get so lost in these thoughts that I start pacing around.
Missing details right in front of me despite focusing on them is something I've always done (Trickster Se?). I am also a bit clumsy in the sense that I sometimes knock things over or hit myself on objects more than I really should, although I probably should be attributing this to just lack of care/absent-mindedness.
When it comes to making a decision of making any major purchases or decisions, I will research it to death. When I first took interest in putting together a computer from scratch, it took me an entire month to even begin acting, after watching hundreds of YouTube videos and doing research on Reddit. No known nuance of the computer will go unresearched. This brings me to the fact that I have a really hard time making a decisions a lot of the time, even for something as simple as deciding what to buy off of a fast food menu. My indecisiveness has frustrated people around me before, as much as it frustrates me to be rushed into making a choice (I end up just making a lot of decisions on impulse if that's the case).
I am also well aware that I have a bias towards INTP because it's the first thing I tested as, and the "intp big brain very smort" stereotype, but I really want to hear what people think. Maybe an ENTP 5w4 could mistype as an INTP because 5's typically observe instead of act, and 5w4 makes them socially reserved?
Anyways, I would appreciate a good explanation here. I've realized how long of a rambling post this has become, so I'll probably just end it off with this. It also took me three sittings to write this, and each time I read back on it, the less confidence I have in my explanations and that will probably lead me to doubt that the information I provided was unbiased/genuine enough to evaluate. But I really hope somebody can make sense of what I'm saying, because I am really looking forward to close the book on this one.

An honest opinion about Sting and Goldberg's actual wrestling situation

As somebody who mainly watch AEW, but keep following the news around WWE, I wanted to share my opinion about Sting and Goldgerg. To be more precise, their next match on their repective company, and what impact it have.

Let's begin with Sting.

The Icon made his AEW debut appearance in the month of December 2020, and kept being present on screen since then. And It is now confirmed that he will be involved in a tag team match, with Darby Allin against Team Taz (Brian Cage and Ricky Starks) in a "Street Fight" match. The reactions are actually divided, even if it is speculated that it will be a pre-taped cinematic match, meaning less physical implications for Sting.
Now, I think that people does not realise (or not enough) that the Icon is involved in a storyline. Since the first time he walked in side the AEW ring, facing four generations of wrestlers, from Arn Anderson, to Darby Allin. It actually means that AEW productions wants, one way or another, to involve Sting with their actual TNT Champion. A mentor ? A future rival ? Those are the plausible continuation of this storyline."But if he they became rivals, Sting will have to wrestle for real..." Not necessarily. On a AEW Unrestricted podcast, Sting revealed that he pushed WWE to have a cinematic-style match with the Undertaker. THing that never happened. So, if AEW and Sting are willing to have more cinematic-style matches for The Icon, Sting's carreer may be safe and longer than we can expect.
Back to the mentroship, whenever it is in-ring or managerial actions, I see Sting as a "talent pusher". It will begin with Darby Allin. If they may face each other are have their respective roles (wrestlemanager relationship), It will help Darby to be in a brighter spotlight than he is alrighty. Of course, I see him facin Cody Rhodes, having a deep story-telling about "the son of a plumber", "the legacy" and such things. It will be a throwback at Sting vs Dusty Rhodes. But I really see The Icon facing many young or established talents that need/should be in the spotlight. Sting vs Ricky Starks, Sting vs Jungle Boy, Sting vs Sammy Guevara... I can see these matches happening (or not). He may win some matches, he may lose some, but he will not be overpushed. At least, I expect it.

Now, about Goldberg.

\Sigh** Goldberg... When he made his return in 2016, I was hyped. I was really excited to see what he could bring after 12 years of "wrestling break". I was excited to see his match against Kevin Owens. And then... Fastlane 2017 happened... 21 seconds...
If we step back a second, we could say that it may be "alright", since there is an intervention from Chris Jericho and that they want to prove his "dominance"... But when you already had this "dominance" on Brock Lesnar, a year ago... This ain't it.
And if we look back at all his matches since his 2016 return, they are all really unpleasant and unsatisfying to watch.
But it not only the quality of his matches that makes Goldberg a massive issue inside the company. The worse is that he recieves title matches and win these matches. He will be facing Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. I could try to compare that to Chris Jericho, who was able to be crowned IWGP Intercontinental Champion and first AEW World Champion, but I will explain that later.
And this clearly a mistake from WWE to still rely on old and part-time wrestlers. It is a mistake because it may affect the quality of their matches, and it will deny other deserving talents to have their shot. It is clearly the oposite of Sting.
In comparison to other 50 years old wrestlers at AEW (Chris Jericho, Dustin Rhodes and Christopher Daniels), Goldberg doesn't bring anything interresting in his matches. He doesn't even reinvent himself ! Jericho has a new finisher, the "Judas Effect" and Dustin does "Canadian Destroyer" move. And Goldberg ? Spear... Jackhammer... And Jackhammer that doesn't look like Jackhammer... Also, in comparison to them, they are not part-timers. Still being able to correctly/amazingly wrestling at the age of 50 is something that we can only respect. This is something that we can't say of Goldberg. Jericho is maybe not in his prime anymore, but he always give his best in his matches, solo or tag.
